Okay, now this is a handy travel lens. The Canon EF 28-200mm f/3.5-5.6 USM lens offers not only a bit of wide angle photo capabilities, but also a pretty hefty telephoto range. The Canon EF 28-200mm f/3.5-5.6 USM lens is also fairly affordable, which makes it a good choice for new photographers.

At 28mm and wide open I noticed quite a bit of vignetting which didn’t seem to clear up until around f/8, but this is easily corrected within the camera raw editing tools.
At 28mm and wide open at f/3.5 the images on the Canon EF 28-200mm f/3.5-5.6 USM lens seemed to be pretty soft, in-fact they were consistently soft throughout until you stopped down to f/8 or f/11. At 200mm the Canon EF 28-200mm f/3.5-5.6 USM lens performed consistently soft, but it wasn’t poor image quality by any means. The Canon EF 28-200mm f/3.5-5.6 USM lens performed pretty well optically, but I expected more for the price you pay for the lens.
Chromatic aberrations seemed to be a little bit of an issue on the Canon EF 28-200mm f/3.5-5.6 USM lens at the widest focal length (28mm). I saw some pretty prominent pink bars on some of the shots I took, but most of them were easily corrected using camera raw editing tools.
All-in-all the Canon EF 28-200mm f/3.5-5.6 USM lens is an okay lens that performs okay. I was not impressed with the lens optically for the price you pay, but it produced satisfactory images. I think that you would be better off going with the Canon 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM lens or of course the Canon 28-300mm f/3.5-5.6L IS USM lens is always a more expensive option.
